A Julia Eccleshare Pick of the Month June 2023
Wendy Meddour’s witty story telling style is perfect for this touching story which will encourage readers to see that it is fine to ask for help.
Cleo the camel is not used to asking for help. Instead, she is determined to believe that everything in her life is going well. She brushes off her great thirst when she has no water and she remains stoical when almost engulfed by a load of sand.
But, like everyone else, Cleo is sometimes overwhelmed and not completely fine after all. It takes her friend the ostrich to tell her that asking for help is quite ok. Carmen Saldana’s illustrations bring get warmth to this quirky story.

A sweltering hot day? Well, Cleo has never felt better! Is she thirsty? No really she's fine. A desert sandstorm? Not a problem, because Cleo is FINE (even while buried under two feet of sand). It's only when an ostrich who tells it like it is turns up that Cleo has the courage to admit that, just maybe, she's not fine at all.
Teaches children through humour that it’s okay to admit you’re struggling.
Explores important well-being and relationship concepts, including confidence and self-esteem, following on from Peggy the Always Sorry Pigeon.
