This bumper collection of Winnie the Witch stories is a real treat for young readers. There are twelve different adventures to enjoy, each one of them bursting with typically riotous adventures starring Winnie and her long-suffering companion Wilbur. No matter what is happening (and that could include anything from singing in a choir, to a bit of online shopping for Winnie, or participation in a broomstick race) the relationship between these two much-loved characters roots it all in feelings and emotions that children will recognise, not least the unconditional love between parent and child. As ever Korky Paul’s illustrations, black and white here, bristle with energy, invention and detail. ~Andrea Reece
