Julia Clarke trained as a teacher at Goldsmiths' College, London, and as an actress at the Guildford School of Acting. She worked in educational theatre until her children were born when she started writing novels, short stories, and articles. Six novels for adults have been followed by several novels for teenagers. Julia lives on a farm in North Yorkshire with her husband, son, and daughter. In 1999 she was awarded an MA(Dist) in creative writing from the University of Leeds.
