In a nutshell: cupcakes – chaos – tap-dancing
Delightfully daft, Rachel Hamilton’s story of Louie the unicorn with stars in his eyes is very funny and full of appealing characters. Following his dream Louie enrols at the New York School of Performing Arts but the city is very different to the sunlit meadows of Story Land, and his constant misunderstandings of how things work (like having to pay for cupcakes) provides lots of hilarious moments. A true unicorn, Louie thinks the best of everyone, never noticing the chaos he leaves in his wake. Readers understand that mean Arnie, the other performing unicorn, is out to spoil things but Louie remains sublimely oblivious. Lots of fun, and readers will look forward to following Louie’s adventures in the future books.
Readers looking for funny illustrated stories will also enjoy Pamela Butchart’s books, The Bolds by Julian Clary and David Roberts, and Philip Reeve and Sarah McIntyre’s books. ~ Andrea Reece

About
Unicorn in New York: Louie Takes the Stage! Synopsis
It's time for this unicorn to shine! Louie the unicorn has joined the New York School of Performing Arts in search of stardom, but he's yet to land any starring roles, with a big audition coming up, is it finally time for this unicorn to shine? A hilarious series, with a unique visual approach, combining real New York photography with character illustrations. Perfect for readers who love funny fiction and bonkers characters.
Dear Mum and Dad, The New York School for Performing Arts is fifty years old this year! Ancient or what? We're going to put on a big show to celebrate. I found out that it's our favourite teacher, Madame Swirler's birthday too, and she's EVEN OLDER than the school! She must've kept it a secret so that we could surprise her, but when I arranged an amazing traffic-halting flash mob to sing happy birthday to her, she was even grumpier than usual! Maybe I should have arranged a confetti explosion too? Anyway got to go, I'll have to think of an even better surprise. Love you more than cake, Louie xx
