A sturdy box contains nine small but satisfyingly chunky board books themed by setting – home, farm, sky, sea and so on. Each little book contains five of Eric Carle’s bright, bold, immediately recognisable animal illustrations. Even shrunk down to building block size, the pictures are stylish and bursting with movement and colour. Both a gorgeous first look at animals and an early introduction to art, this would make a lovely gift for a christening or first birthday. ~ Andrea Reece
