Imogen and Marie first followed the Shadow Moth through a door into another magical world by mistake. In this new adventure, they go through on purpose; after all, they need to prove to grown-ups, and particularly their mum’s boyfriend Mark, that Yaroslav and its creatures are real. But things, don’t go to plan and once again they find themselves trapped when the door closes behind them. What’s worse, boring, irritating, bossy Mark is on the wrong side of the door too, then Marie is kidnapped by the beautiful but ruthless Anneshka. Imogen won’t go home without her little sister and Mark is no help, so she turns to her friend Milo, now King Miroslav, ruler of Yaroslav. In their quest to save Marie they’re joined by Perla and her wildcat Konya. The adventures that befall this small gang are full of excitement and danger as they encounter all sorts of people and creatures, many of them magical, some friendly, some definitely not. There are constant surprises and, despite the tension and perils they face, lots of humour too. Francesca Gibbons has created a rich and enormously enjoyable story, one of those that readers will be truly sorry to finish.
