August 2024 Non-Fiction Book of the Month

Part of the nattily-named Poo Crew Adventures series, Journey to Poo-Topia sets out to put paid to the notion that poo stinks!

Created by comic book dream team James Turner and Steve May, it’s a gloriously graphic novel that’s also gloriously (or should that be gorily?!) graphic when it comes to the (literal) ins and outs of poo, as a scatological science adventure is splattered (sorry not sorry) with fascinating facts that reveal why poo is, in the words of Professor Poo, “the most interesting and important substance in the entire universe!”

In the company of Professor Poo and Ploppy the talking poo, readers are sucked into a fact-and-faeces stuffed journey from food to mouth, to oesophagus, to stomach, to intestines, to (you guessed it!) rectum and beyond, with a chapter on toilets presenting the history of poo’s post-excretion fate through time.

Oozing all manner of weird (and windy) facts about the human body and the excretory habits of animals, Journey to Poo-Topia mashes-up science and comic book capers like never before.

I loved this book! It is really fun to learn about the body. It is full of interesting facts and has brilliant pictures too. I like the character Floppy and learning about why poo is so important. My favourite part was learning about animal facts and how caterpillars shoot their poo far away so that predators can not find them.... Read Full Review
