This is a sweet and gentle version of the favourite fairy tale which emphasises the romance and the magic of the story. Sarah Gibb frames many of the scenes with delicate garlands of flowers in pinks and purples, while the good fairies sweep across the pages trailing pretty pastel sparkles. Some of the more dramatic scenes – the princess creeping up the stairs for the fateful encounter with the spindle, the castle’s bewitched residents asleep where they stand – are depicted in wonderfully atmospheric silhouettes and there’s a full double page illustration of the moment when the prince discovers the sleeping princess. It’s lovely to look at and a rewarding, enjoyable read. ~ Andrea Reece
A beautifully illustrated, magical re-telling of one of the most beloved fairy tales. A wicked fairy has cast an evil spell on baby Princess Rosebud: when she is sixteen, she will prick her finger on a spinning wheel and die. But perhaps a good fairy can save her, even if it means that Rosebud will sleep for 100 years? A luxurious gift book for every child's bookshelf.
'An old-fashioned, romantic fairy tale with Crabtree and Evelyn decorative elegance, detailed silhouettes, and bronze gilding. Such outstanding prettiness with substance is rare, but this will win any girlie heart.' Sunday Times
