Warmly expressed, this is a wonderful outpouring of the special love between a parent and a growing baby. This time, the parent is a crane and the baby is a delightful baby cranelet. Unabashed at pouring out so much emotion, the crane sings a tender and touching song to its offspring drawing in friends and others and prasing their special characteristics as it does so. The result is a touching and warm hearted book with glorious illustrations capturing the mood perfectly.
Oh my yummy one, my utterly lovely one! Look at you, so gorgeous! So opens a glorious song from parent crane to adored and adorable little cranelet...and with every turn of the page the song draws other species into the circle of love.
As a child, Mary Murphy was a constant reader. Her favourite books included Mary Poppins, Peter Pan and Tom’s Midnight Garden. She also loved any stories about animals. Mary was the third of six children.
Mary lives in Galway, Ireland, and describes herself as "fairly outdoorish, but not sporty". She loves walking, swimming, reading and cycling. Mary studied Illustration and Design in Dublin before freelancing as an illustrator. She has always written for pleasure, and soon began developing ideas for children’s books following the antics of characters she had already visualised. A technique she sometimes uses is to draw the character in different situations, and then see what follows on from there.
