This is a fantastic series for pony-mad 7+ year olds from one of the best known riders competing today. Each book is not just a great story, but also full of expert advice that readers will pick up along the way. So if you have a child who dreams about having a pony, then Tilly’s Pony Tails will provide an acceptable substitute. For others who live and breathe ponies because they have one, this series just might get them hooked on reading too.
Here is some recent praise from pony-mad youngsters:
'When I read Black Beauty I thought that was good, but this is even better' - Emily Cooper
I recommend Magic Spirit to people who are pony mad. I loved it and I think other people will too' - Megan MacDuff
'I love horses so I like reading about them as well. This book is the best book in the whole world' - Pandora Ross
A message from Pippa Funnell, champion rider, Olympic Medallist and Grand Slam winner: When I wrote my autobiography I never imagined that I would find myself writing children’s books just 3 years later. Much of my thinking about Tilly has been done out loud in front of family, friends and godchildren – thank you all for listening. But, more than anything I have to acknowledge my four-legged friends – my horses. It is thanks to them, that I was able to create a girl, Tilly, who like me follows her passions.
Tilly's Pony Tails 10: Nimrod The Circus Pony Synopsis
Pippa Funnell talking about the inspiration behind her books:
Meet Tilly Redbrow, who doesn't just love horses - she lives, breathes and dreams them too! Nimrod is a mischievous circus pony and when he arrives at Silver Shoe Farm Tilly can't wait to see what tricks he can perform but Tilly soon realises it's more than tricks that Nimrod is capable of! Pippa had the idea for an ongoing story about Tilly’s family from the beginning. Though Tilly owes her appearance in part to a friend of Pippa’s, the riding champion admits she has more than a passing resemblance to her lead character. Though readers will learn a lot about horse care from the stories, at the back of each book are “Pippa’s Top Tips”, which offer advice on everything from avoiding kicks to cleaning tack.
Pippa Funnell been pony mad for as long as she can remember. She is a three-times Olympic medallist, three-times Badminton winner, and BT Action Sports Women of the Year (2019). She was also the first person to win the Rolex Grand Slam (2003).
Pippa lives in Surrey with her husband, international show jumper William Funnell.
