LoveReading4Kids Says
John Connolly is a mega-bestselling author of thrillers but recently his mind and his imagination have wandered into an altogether different dimension and The Gates is the result.
A very strange novel but powerfully compelling and the writing is superb, it’s the story of a boy called Samuel and his unnervingly clever dog Boswell who accidentally witness the opening of a portal into hell in a neightbour’s cellar. As a consequence they find that it’s up to them to save the world from the demons threatening to destroy human life. Meanwhile, deep in the heart of a swiss mountain, a pair of scientists are interrupted when the Large Hadron Collider malfunctions. Topical and timely as it links in to controversy surrounding the trials of the Collider, it is also demonically funny as science and satanism collide.

About John Connolly
JOHN CONNOLLY sees a strong connection between his adult and children’s books … ‘Most writers only have one or two themes to which they constantly return, and one of my themes is childhood. I make no apologies for that, and the Samuel Johnson books ‘are simply another aspect of that fascination – albeit one that allows me to be a little funnier than in my adult books, and permits my imagination a different, and perhaps freer rein.’ With strong opinions on how scary books for children can be, he brings a noire element to his writing for youngsters that will chill and thrill and entertain. Born in Dublin, he is a bestselling adult novelists known for his Charlie Parker mystery thriller books.
He has also co-written a young adult novel called CONQUEST with Jennie Ridyard.
