A hugely entertaining adventure story tinged with enough horror to delight but not really to terrify. Bored during a wet holiday, Bea and her friend Sam go exploring and come across the body of a dead man. What’s the story? Bea and her gang set out to follow the clues and unravel what’s been going on. A tremendous debut.

Murder, Mystery and Chillies. A funny, mock-horror thriller-mystery from award-winning scriptwriter Rebecca Promitzer; The Pickle King is undoubtedly The Goonies for a new generation. Readers of Louis Sachar, Frank Cottrell Boyce and Paul Jennings will devour it in a sitting.
The Pickle King stars a gang of unlikely friends thrown together one wet summer in the small town of Elbow, famous for only two things: chilli pickle and rain. Already bored, they hope something will turn up, but what none of them expect is a real-life dead body with a missing eyeball!
Soon the mystery of who killed Herman, owner of the giant pickle factory, becomes a crazy adventure for Bea and her gang of misfit friends. That these kids have guts will take on a different meaning in this fabulous, zany debut.
Perfect summer reading for children aged 10+; The Pickle King has shades of Louis Sachar, Paul Jennings and Frank Cottrell Boyce.
