Winnie's Witchy Bedtime, the latest Winnie and Wilbur picture book from the Valérie Thomas and Korky Paul dream team, ticks all the boxes for little ones who love characterful stories and digging into illustrative details.
It’s midnight chez Winnie and Wilbur’s magnificent castle, which means it’s bedtime for witches. But while Wilbur the big black cat has no trouble dropping off to sleep in his cosy basket, poor Winnie is struggling to do the same.
So, Winnie checks her Witchiphone for tips and tries the tactic of counting sheep and frogs, but to no avail. Reading doesn’t help either, and neither does drinking special sleepy tea. No matter what she does, Winnie just can’t get to sleep, until she remembers the magic of spells, and eventually manages to drop off just before Wilbur wakes up. Feeling very hungry, Wilbur is compelled to cast a spell in order to wake Winnie for breakfast.
Laced with gentle mischief, Winnie's Witchy Bedtime will resonate with toddlers who sometimes have a tough time getting to sleep, and with the grown-ups who’ll enjoy reading this aloud before bedtime.

About Valerie Thomas
Valerie Thomas was born in Melbourne, Australia, and has lived there for most of her life, apart from six years spent in Europe, where she worked in England, France and Norway. She is a teacher, and has taught in primary, secondary, and special schools in Australia and England as well as lecturing in English Teaching Method in a Teachers’ College in Melbourne.
For many years she worked as an educational researcher and curriculum consultant in the area of spelling, and has written extensively on the subject. Her other main interest is travel. She has travelled to most corners of the world, and has written about her travels: the first piece of writing she had published was an account of her experience picking grapes for the champagne harvest in France.
In 1987 her phenomenally successful children’s book Winnie the Witch, illustrated by Korky Paul, was published by Oxford University Press and won the Children’s Book of the Year Award. It has since been translated into many languages around the world and become a children's classic.
