"A clear and understanding guide to building resilience, full of non-patronising tips and engaging activities that young people will enjoy working through."
January 2025 Book of the Month
Perhaps more than ever young people have an overwhelming amount to deal with. From inescapable social media pressures to climate concerns, as well as all the usual teen challenges brought by changing hormones, school pressures and learning to navigate friendships and relationships; our young people deserve all the help we can offer to enable them to blossom and live the best lives they can. Becky Goddard-Hill’s book is a perfect tool to do so with.
Focused on building resilience to navigate life’s inevitable challenges, the book first explains what resilience is and how we all need it to live our best lives. Then using 40 different activities or practical ideas, we are guided through methods of building our own resilience and practising self-care. From navigating friendships to eating well, from the power of optimism to the benefits of getting moving, each section is detailed and enlightening whilst making its suggestions feel achievable and appealing. This is not a book that demands to be read from cover to cover, instead readers can enjoy flicking through it and focusing on the sections that most resonate.
Presented in a bright but not at all fussy style, this is a wonderfully inviting book. Young readers will appreciate the simple layouts, which make use of lots of blank space, headings and doodles. All combined these format decisions makes the book feel welcoming, whilst avoiding feeling overwhelming or childish.
With so many books about teen wellbeing available, this is one that readers can trust, enjoy and benefit from. A strong addition to any bookshelf.
