"Interweaving African mythology with modern adventure, this second book in an exhilarating illustrated adventure series sees a pair of brave siblings battle to save a secret city."
Second book in The Nkara Chronicles, Davina Tijani’s Yomi and the Power of the Yumboes melds the richness of African mythology with contemporary humour and classic adventure. Perfectly pitched for devotees of fast-paced quests, the engaging dialogue and Adam Douglas-Bagley’s lively illustrations also render the series ideal for reluctant readers.
Having been made members of the Sacred Beast League, Yomi and her younger brother Kayode are ready for adventure! But, having travelled to Senegal to assist Uncle Olu with his research, they’re getting a little bored of only dealing with paperwork, until they learn about Senegalese Yumboes — powerful fairy-like creatures that possess the power of moon magic. Then, after being issued an urgent call-to-action by a Yumboe, the daring duo step up to try to save a secret city.
With the stage set for the duo’s next adventure in South Africa, Yomi and the Power of the Yumboes exudes an inspiring sense of discovery as it shows the power of working together, and shares the magic of Senegalese myth.

Yomi helps the Yumboes save the beast city from hunters stealing their moon magic. An exciting second book in the series with great pictures. 5 stars!
I had been wanting to read Yomi and the Power of the Yumboes ever since I saw in a magazine that the first book in the series had been shortlisted for a children's book award.
Yomi is a young girl who is trying to save magical beasts from hunters in Africa. The hunters are trying to kill the beasts to steal their moon magic.

One night she is woken by fireworks and goes into the kitchen to get something to eat as her brother had eaten all her cookies. In the kitchen she finds a Yumboe stealing her food. The Yumboe wants Yomi to save their city and Yomi agrees!... Read Full Review
