Can you imagine what would happen if an ordinary Year 7 boy – like Danny Todd for example – had a mischievous, unruly fairy as a best friend; and then if said fairy accompanied him to school, hidden in his hair? Jenny McLachlan can, and she describes it all brilliantly in this very funny series.
As readers of the first book will know, Stink the fairy means well, especially when trying to do enough good deeds to earn herself the gold nuggets to buy a new wand. The trouble is, she’s easily distracted and, now that her wand is on its last legs, her spells don’t tend to work as expected either.
Add evil wizard Rufus Nobeard into the mix, and his plan to kidnap Danny’s chemistry teacher Miss Nichol, and the stage is set for an adventure that is totally bonkers but also completely realistic, rooted as it is in secondary school life. This had me laughing out loud (in public) – younger readers will probably love it even more.
