This is an amusing, magical story with a bad-mannered baron as the main character. The book features some sweet drawings at the bottom of each page and charming colour illustrations which bring the characters to life. The Beastly Baron tells Major Mountjoy that he will join him and his men for their exercises. The major suggests the baron go for a walk in the Wild Western Woods to stretch his legs while they complete their exercises. In the woods, the Baron gets a bit lost and meets the Warty Witch. He asks her to lead him out of the woods. In exchange, she asks for him to give her the rights to her cottage and the land it is on, so she no longer has to pay rent. She leads him out, but they end up far from the soldiers. The Baron is displeased and does not want to follow through on his promise. The Witch points out that he did not specify where he wanted to end up, he only wanted to get out of the woods. She turns him into a clover patch and promises to return in a few days when he has thought about what it means to keep a promise. Unfortunately, the Greedy Goat of the Glen appears and eats the clover! Read the book to find out if the baron will be able to turn back to his normal self. Who is the Gossamer Green Ghost and what part do Greta and Hal have to play in the story? This imaginative and humorous book will appeal to children up to about the age of 11 or 12.
