January 2024 Book of the Month

Al (Albert Einstein Hawking Chaudhury) has already experienced time travel when he and his hamster Alan Shearer went back into the past to prevent the accident that would prematurely end his father’s life. That trip, told in an earlier book, was successful, but time travel is tricky and the laws of spacetime are set up to have the last laugh, as Al’s Grandpa points out. When Al, first accidentally, then deliberately goes time travelling again, the results are unexpected, if not mind-blowing. His adventures are funny, exciting (warning – there are dinosaurs), but always full of heart and for all the quantum physics, the real force in this story is human love. Few writers have the ambition let alone the ability to write with such lightness and humour about such weighty subjects but Ross Welford pulls it off in his books time and time again.

Can time-travel help fix Albert’s grandfather? This is an exciting book with dinosaurs, doppelgängers, danger and doubt if time-travel can ever be used safely.

I really enjoyed reading this story. In this second book of the series, Albert (named after a few famous scientists) accidentally creates a scenario where his Grandad begins to lose his memory. Can time-travel help fix it? Through a journey where Al meets dinosaurs (and a tortoise) in the long distant past, to doppelgängers in a possible future, this is an exciting book.... But can time travel help to fix this problem? Albert thinks so, and so embarks on a time travelling journey of adventure with his friends where he meets a tortoise in the past, and doppelgangers in the future, and a few other things along the way too. But what would happen if not everyone came back to the present day? Throughout this story, crammed full of plot twists and turns, Al spends his time travelling between universes, giving him more problems along his way.... Read Full Review

This plot-twisty, time-travel adventure sees Al trying to rescue his friend but as he jumps from universe to universe he creates more problems between the dimensions along the way.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to travel back in time? Well, Al Chadbury hasn't just wondered about it. He's been there. Time Travelling with a Tortoise is the sequel to Time Travelling with a Hamster, and is great for people who like adventure mixed with everyday life. After an accident with a hamster, a tortoise and a time machine, Al and his friends are transported into the past and not all of them are able to come back. On a mission with his stepsister, Al jumps from universe to universe, creating more problems between the dimensions along the way.... Read Full Review
