April 2023 Book of the Month
Dido, star of the Circus Maximus series gallops back for a new adventure and it is every bit as thrilling as we’ve come to expect.
Book three sees her journey back to Rome, still ruled by Emperor Caligula, who remains her enemy and is now more cruel, more erratic than ever. Despite the danger, Dido is determined to go to find and bring home her cousin Abibaal, who is rumoured to have joined the Greens, the emperor’s chariot racing team.
She is too old now to pass for a boy, but fate sees her competing in the Circus Maximus a final time, the stakes higher than ever. As she races the Four Winds team, against Caligula himself, it’s a trick inherited from her mother that saves her life.
Dido and the horses she loves have won their places in readers’ hearts, the series’ mix of history and cracking good adventure story making them clear favourites every time. We get particularly close to Caligula in this episode and it’s memorable stuff; as far as Roman history goes, these are virtually unbeatable.

About
Circus Maximus: Rider of the Storm Synopsis
Dido gallops headlong into her third adventure, following her escapades in the riveting and action-packed Race to the Death and Rivals on the Track. Dido is reconciled to leaving the racing track and staying at home to train horses with Scorpus and Parmenion.
But a storm is brewing. It brings with it a fiery black stallion, uncannily like Dido's beloved Porcellus. Word arrives from Rome that her cousin, Abibaal, a talented young charioteer, has been recruited to compete for the evil emperor, Caligula. To save Abibaal, Dido must return to the great Circus Maximus track where she once drove to glory herself, confront her enemy Caligula, and face the toughest, most dangerous race of her life.
