Once I had a secret that was big and monstery... I thought of it as Blue. But Blue the monster doesn't have to be scary. And he doesn't have to be a secret. After all, we all feel blue from time to time and talking about it helps.
A friendly, gentle story to help young children navigate big emotions.
Sarah Christou is completing an MA in Children's Book Illustration at Cambridge School of Art. She won the Faber/Andlyn FAB Prize for Illustration in 2019. In 2020 she completed a NCFE Cache Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Children and Young People's Mental Health. She is based in Saffron Waldon, near Cambridge. Sarah was inspired by her experiences of childhood trauma and the complex-PTSD it left her with. She used talking therapy as an adult to help her process her childhood experiences, learning that talking is key to managing mental health, an idea that sits at the heart of BLUE. Sarah wants to use her storytelling to connect with children and inspire them to engage with how they feel, no matter whether those feelings are big or small. Emerging from the pandemic, Sarah is keen that children are given a space to talk, and to process their emotions.
