Elephant and Mouse are playing on the seesaw but Elephant is too heavy. Mouse’s friends climb up, Rabbit, Frog and Squirrel, but they’re still too light. It’s only when Monkey climbs up too that the weights balance and Elephant rises into the air. The arrival of Daddy Elephant on the final spread provides the last and biggest laugh.
With lots of lively humour, the story smoothly delivers a lesson in the concept of weight while young readers will be picking up vocabulary that is key in the Early Years Foundation Stage for maths.
