Susannah Lloyd Press Reviews
'An amusing tale of temptation, favouritism and mis-placed trust' -- Creative Steps magazine
'With his oversized, ping-pong ball eyes and over-the-top acting, there's something rather delicious about Monty's absolute villainy ... Gregory's illustrations have a brilliant zany energy as the cats hurtle around the pages, clawing at cakes, plates and each other' -- The Observer
'With hilarious images by Nici Gregory, this funny story is full of naughtiness! But behind the hilarity are also some great discussion points on fairness, favouritism, and taking the rap for something you haven't done!' -- Discover Children's Books
'The genius of this lively, engaging picture book lies in the superbly clever telling of the story ... The cats themselves are brought brilliantly to life by illustrator, Nici Gregory. These are cats with huge attitudes, characterful rather than cutesy, drawn with elegant lines as befits their pampered status and given completely hilarious facial expressions. The high-energy illustrations capture the drama of the storyline perfectly' -- Armadillo magazine
'Younger readers will utterly love hearing it ... and I am super excited to enjoy this book all over again, with the little ones interacting as we go along.' -- Book Bound
'If you love a cat caper (or cake!) then this is the book for you! ... The fantastic expressions on the cat's faces will make you laugh out loud' -- Mrs Brown's Book Box
'Grabs the reader's attention and actively encourages them to read between the lines ... Hilarious illustrations ... My children and I absolutely LOVE this book!' -- Stories for Little Ones
Susannah Lloyd does dramatic irony and humour so brilliantly in her books... Her words are brought deliciously to life here by Nici Gregory. I adore the colour palette, which appears lifted directly from the display cabinets of a Patisserie and lends a decadent, refined air to the book' -- Little Literary Society
'An absolutely gorgeous confection of a picturebook' -- Read with River
About Susannah Lloyd
Susannah Lloyd is the author of picture books Who Ate Steve, Here Be Giants, Here Be Dragons, Oh Monty, This Book Can Read Your Mind, and The Terribly Friendly Fox. Her books have been translated into ten languages. Badgers Are Go is her first foray into chapter books.
She loves reading stories, especially the ones you find in children's books. Libraries and bookshops are her happy place.
Her favourite book from childhood was Trubloff, The Mouse Who Wanted To Play The Balalaika, by John Burningham. It made her want to play the balalaika too, but, alas, she still cannot.
Her favourite food is trifle and her favourite words are ‘in cahoots’ and ‘hullabaloo’.
She wrote her first ever book when she was five, on her kitchen table, with the help of a large pot of felt tip pens and a stapler. It was about a fox, a wolf, a crow and a stolen balloon. It had a very mysterious ending. This was followed by an ambitious murder mystery series, started aged 11, abandoned aged 12. She is now making up for lost time.
Her books are inspired by old black and white movies, dusty stuffed animals in museums and all things small in the world.
