January 2020 Book of the Month

“Your body belongs to you, and you get to set your own rules.” At once inspiring, informative and entertaining, this perfectly-pitched consent primer covers the concept of consent, setting boundaries, having control over your personal space and body, and being self-aware.

Ideal for use in the classroom as a fun and enlightening teaching aid, the appealingly bold cartoons present big issues in an admirably relatable manner. Alongside the clear explanation of what consent is and how to set boundaries, this empathy-nurturing book also shares valuable insights into how to be a supportive friend, making it a uniquely useful navigational tool.

Librarian Reviewer: A superb little book which should be in every school library. Clear, direct information and advice on personal boundaries and consent. The cartoon style gives it instant appeal and it's easily readable over a lunchtime.

Making it very clear to all children that they are in charge of their own bodies; they can decide what feels comfortable to them and have the right to say no to anything that is uncomfortable, and also the right to change their mind. I loved the style, the conciseness and directness. Could easily be used with children from KS1-KS3 in discussions and PHSE and RSE lessons.... Read Full Review

Librarian Reviewer: Straightforward, entertaining and fun, this guide to setting your own boundaries and respecting those of others is a useful addition to any book collection.

A clear, concise introduction to the meaning of consent and respect, this book covers many different scenarios, including relationships with friends, parents and other adults. The use of short chapters, bold engaging illustrations and fun, informative text are perfect for use in the classroom and also for parents and carers to share with their children. My co-reviewer, aged 10, enjoyed the comic captions and illustrations and felt that the author conveyed an important message in a fun, straightforward way.

I especially liked the message, "Find your crew. Having people in your life support you, listen to you and respect you will help you thrive".... Read Full Review

Great comic-style book. It made me think about my friends and feelings and had lots of useful ideas about how to tell people about my boundaries. I think my friends would enjoy and find it easy to understand.

I liked reading this book because it was like a comic and the pictures made it really easy to understand. I have learnt a lot about consent and boundaries which I think are difficult things to explain to people my age.... Read Full Review
