Aru Shah and the Song of Death Synopsis
Aru is only just getting the hang of this whole Pandava thing when the Otherworld goes into full panic mode. The god of love's bow and arrow have gone missing, and the thief isn't playing Cupid. Instead, they're turning people into heartless fighting-machine zombies. If that weren't bad enough, somehow Aru gets framed as the thief. If she doesn't find the arrow by the next full moon, she'll be kicked out of the Otherworld. For good. But, for better or worse, she won't be going it alone. Along with her soul-sister, Mini, Aru will team up with Brynne, an ultra-strong girl who knows more than she lets on, and Aiden, the boy wholives across the street and is also hiding plenty of secrets. Together they'll battle demons, travel through a glittering and dangerous serpent realm, and discover that their enemy isn't at all who they expected.

About Roshani Chokshi
Roshani Chokshi is the author of the instant New York Times best-selling novel The Star-Touched Queen and its companion, A Crown of Wishes. She studied fairy tales in college, and she has a pet luck dragon that looks suspiciously like a Great Pyrenees dog. Aru Shah and the End of Time, her middle-grade debut, was inspired by the stories her grandmother told her, as well as Roshani's all-consuming love for Sailor Moon. Dear Reader,
Aru Shah is about to fight a herd of feral grocery carts.
This, as you might imagine, is really not how she planned to spend her weekend. Then again, this is the kind of adventure that will stretch the limits of even Aru’s huge imagination. After all, it’s not every day that you’re threatened with exile from a magical realm; faced with an earworm of a song that even serpent demons can’t stand; flying an electrical skateboard across a flock of sun cows and trying your best not to make a fool of yourself in front of someone you might like more than you think.
I realize how much of a liar I’ll sound if I tell you that this story draws from my own well of painfully mortal experiences, but it’s not that much of a stretch. True, I’ve never defeated grocery carts or demons, but like Aru, I’ve made friendships with people who’ve started off as downright enemies. I’ve tasted that metallic panic of fear and shame when one thinks they’ll be cast out of the only place that feels like home. I’ve held my hands to my heart for fear of how badly it will break if I let go of it. I’ve had a hundred doubts.
Aru is a girl full of heart and full of doubt, which can be a very deadly combination without friends and family. And that’s what this story is about. Friends and family, the powerful alchemy of love which can heal the world or break it. The truth that when it comes to a story of a hero or a villain, sometimes it all depends on who is doing the telling.
It’s been a joy to write Aru and watch her grow, and I hope you enjoy her latest adventures. Do watch out for stray grocery carts. They can be very violent…
