This is a book full of sunshine. Tim Hopgood has taken the lyrics from the song made famous by Louis Armstrong and turned them into a picture book. The lyrics are often pretty specific – ‘I see trees of green/ red roses too’ – and Hopgood illustrates them faithfully, but he allows himself free rein with the refrain ‘and I think to myself/ what a wonderful world’, creating a vivid undersea landscape at one point, and a lively, joyful double page of galloping horses the next. In a note he explains that he wanted to capture the joy of the song in a picture book, and he’s done just that. As an added bonus, this new edition contains a CD of the song sung by Louis Armstrong. ~ Andrea Reece
