LoveReading4Kids Says
April 2015 Book of the Month From the team who created the Roald Dahl Funny Prize shortlisted Spaghetti with the Yeti comes a brand new picturebook, and it’s another tasty treat! This time young George has a wonderful plan to sail with a fine pirate crew. So he packs up a pizza, his favourite food, and rows off on the wide ocean blue. Sharp eyed readers will notice that the pirate ship is actually George’s bed, but it takes him on all sorts of adventures; he’s even swallowed by a whale before finally landing on a desert island, where he meets the pirates. It’s great fun, and the rhyming text is a delight to read aloud. Lee Wildish’s hirsute pirates caper wonderfully, and his sea monster (it fills a whole page) is superb! Great fun, and destined to be a real favourite with young readers. ~ Andrea Reece

Pizza for Pirates Synopsis
A boy called George had a wonderful plan. To search for a real pirate crew.
So he packed up a pizza, his favourite feast.
And rowed across the wide ocean blue.
George, a young explorer, longs to meet a real pirate crew. So he sets sail with a cheesy treat to sustain him on his voyage. Join George on his travels as he finds scurrilous sea dogs and marine monsters - not to mention a feathered friend!
A wonderful fourth instalment in the George series, this is a funny seafaring fast-paced, rhyming story about pirates, legends, monsters and George, an intrepid kid keen to explore the high seas.
George’s earlier adventure Spaghetti with the Yeti was nominated for the prestigious Roald Dahl Funny Prize in 2013.

Q&A: Adam and Charlotte
1. How did you get the idea for this book/artwork?
Like many parents with babies, Charlotte and I would make up silly rhymes and songs for all usual baby stuff: changing nappies, going to sleep, eating food etc. One of the first solids our own George loved was spaghetti. One day we were doing the usual nonsense stuff when the words 'spaghetti with the yeti' came out. We were on to it like a shot! When Egmont said they loved it and wanted Lee Wildish to create the illustrations we were so happy we danced a jig!
2. How would you describe the book?
It's very silly, funny and warm.
3. Which is your favourite character/theme in the book?
We love the character, George, partly because he's based on our own red-headed son, but because he so refreshingly innocent and optimistic. He has an idea and in good faith he just goes for it!
4. How long did it take you to write/illustrate this book?
The first draft was written in about fifteen minutes but we've been writing, rewriting and crafting this story for seven years.
5. How did you do the research for it? Where did you look/go?
Other than researching if anyone else had thought of this idea before, we did absolutely no research at all - which was great!
6. What other books have you written/illustrated?
It's a long list. Better check out our website www.tinnedspaghetti.co.uk
