Alice Oseman probably feels to most of us that's she's flown to fame with her Heartstopper series. But far from it.
She is supremely talented having had her first novel Solitaire published when she was nineteen. We know right, how awesome is that! (She's now 27 by the way).
Her YA novels have been nominated for the YA Book Prize, the Inky Awards, the Carnegie Medal, and the Goodreads Choice Awards.
Alice Oseman is an award-winning author, illustrator, and screenwriter, and was born in 1994 in Kent, England.
She has written four YA contemporary novels about teenage disasters: Solitaire, Radio Silence, I Was Born for This, and Loveless which won the YA Book Prize in 2021. It's a "trailblazing coming-out, coming-of-age treasure with universal messages about self-love, friendship and finding your way."
You probably best know her for being the creator of LGBTQ+ YA romance webcomic Heartstopper, which is now published in physical form by Hachette Children’s Group, and she is the writer, creator, and executive producer for the television adaptation of Heartstopper, which is now available on Netflix.
Originally a webcomic born in 2016, Heartstopper has amassed an enormous online fanbase with over 52.1 million views to date. Alice Oseman crowd-funded a limited print-run edition, meeting her funding goal in less than two hours. Hachette Children’s Group published Heartstopper Volume One more widely in Spring 2019, followed by Volume Two in July of the same year. Since then, Hachette Children’s Group have published a further two volumes (Volume 3 came in 2020 and Volume 4 arrived in 2021) and a colouring book.
The Heartstopper series has inspired an outpouring of love since it first published in 2019, with one million print copies sold worldwide to date, sell-out nationwide book tours, and a live-action Netflix adaptation which hit the screens on 22nd April, starring Kit Connor and newcomer Joe Locke as the beloved Nick and Charlie, produced by See-Saw Films.
Heartstopper follows two teenage boys, Nick and Charlie, as they meet at a British grammar school, quickly become friends and fall in love. Each volume navigates the ups and downs of first love, friendships, coming out, and mental health, beautifully framed by a warm cast of supporting characters.
This Winter and Nick and Charlie are spin-off novellas from Solitaire and Heartstopper

Well done Alice Oseman.Alyson C - 21st June 2022
I wish these books had been available when our son was a teenager. Not only would they have helped him personally, but would have 'normalised' his sexuality amongst his school friends. Thankfully, things have changed and our granddaughter, aged 12, proudly wears her Love is Love tee shirt for her beloved Uncle and his boyfriend.Leave A Reply
