On Saturday 6th May, King Charles III was crowned in an ancient ceremony not seen in almost 70 years.

The Coronation service took place at Westminster Abbey, as it has for the last 900 years. The ceremony is an occasion for pageantry and celebration, but it was also a solemn religious rite when His Majesty King Charles III was crowned alongside Her Majesty The Queen Consort. The service was conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury, whose task this has been at almost every Coronation since the Norman Conquest in 1066.

The Coronation celebrations included a weekend of events and an additional Bank Holiday on Monday 8 May.

Over the weekend, Coronation Big Lunches took place in streets and community spaces across the country and the Commonwealth.  On Sunday 7 May Windsor Castle hosted the Coronation Concert, with performances from global music icons and contemporary stars including Take That, Katy Perry, Steve Winwood and Andrea Bocelli.

Across the country families, friends, nurseries, schools and community groups joined together to celebrate the Coronation.
