The life and writings of Steven Eli Esquibel, whose Indian name translates into Hummingbird, represents the traditional American-Indian path of spirituality and life, which he has pursued as his avocation and vocation for the last 20 years. The author was born in San Diego, California, and raised in a small agricultural community and one of the seventeen Indian reservations in San Diego County. He moved to Arizona ten years ago. In 1981, he immersed himself in traditional American-Indian activities and was appointed speaker for the American-Indian Elders Society of San Diego County in 1982. The group is dedicated to preserving traditional beliefs and protecting sacred sites. At the age of 32, he became the youngest person in their history to hold the position of speaker for the esteemed society. Mr. Esquibel-Hummingbird has dedicated his life to the path of traditional understanding and utilizes his academic and cultural background to further that path of life through his writings.
