Jon Carnegie trained and worked as a teacher in Melbourne before heading overseas for several years to pursue a career as a writer. He runs highly successful self-development workshops in schools at both primary and secondary levels and runs his own school in Melbourne. He has won several secondary teaching awards, including the Commonwealth Australian Teachers Prize for Excellence and the National Excellence Award in 2001. In 2000 he brought Nelson Mandela to Australia, and in 2005 was the only Australian delegate at the International Boys' School Coalition, speaking with the likes of Madeleine Albright.
