Jill Paton Walsh was born in London and educated at Anne's College, Oxford. She taught for some years before becoming a full-time writer. She writes for all ages and has won many awards, including the Whitbread and Smarties prizes. In 1994 her adultnovel, A KNOWLEDGE OF ANGELS, was shortlisted for the Booker Prize. Jill lives in Cambridge.
Stephen Lambert lives in North Yorkshire - he illustrated CONNIE CAME TO PLAY, also by Jill Paton Walsh.
