Jackie Burns is a lady in her 60s who has a young grandson who has inspired her to write this book. The author has been around young children all her life and could never imagine life without them. Children's imaginations are the most exciting, either playing with their toys or outside playing with animals real or imaginative. The author is trying to be that child playing on their own in the woods with different animals in each book. Woods can be very interesting and exciting to the young, it can also make them feel like they are big boys and girls by climbing trees, finding things and seeing the animals that roam the woods.
