Chris Szekely has held the statutory position of Chief Librarian of the Alexander Turnbull Library since 2007. He began his library career at the Auckland School Library Service, and for a time led library services in the South Auckland city of Manukau. He is a founding member of the Maori Information Professionals Association Te Ropu Whakahau and a Fellow of the Library & Information Association of New Zealand Aotearoa. He is also an award-winning childrens author with works published in te reo Maori and English.
