Betty Pfeiffer took her first steps in realizing the wonders of the ocean's creatures while scuba diving. The dive master handed her asea cucumber. He then brought forth a baby octopus about eighteen inches long to touch. She still remembers the silky feel of the octopus beneath her hand and the gentle wrap of its tentacles around her arm.
