Penny Alexander worked for seven years in secondary schools teaching Drama, Film, and as a Head of Media Studies, after which she became an education consultant. When she had her children, she became a full-time blogger and brand journalist. In 2013, Penny won a MAD blog award for her work for Comic Relief.
The idea came from wanting to put our knowledge and skills from previous careers to good use and from feeling there was lots of info about how we create happiness for adults, but less for children. We were also a bit miserable after the Christmas holidays and got together in a cafe in Nottingham to create/ brainstorm a happy project!
We first met at Becky’s babysigning classes in Nottingham, and again through blogging. We both lost our Mums when our own children were young and another reason for writing the book was wanting to communicate some of the wonderful things, they taught us about happiness.
Becky Goddard-Hilll was born in West Bridgford and still lives there. She is a married mum of 2 kids Frankie 14 and Lisi, 11 and is a full-time blogger. Prior to becoming a blogger some 10 years ago Becky worked as a social worker for Nottingham City Council, she is also a qualified psychotherapist. Becky blogs mainly about parenting. Becky met Penny through blogging and baby signing, they soon discovered they both missed working with children and wanted to still have an impact on helping young people learn and grow, hence the desire to write a book to do just that.
Create your own happy was born out of a shared belied that we have the power every day to create some happiness in our word and the world around us and the belief that this is one of the most important things a child can ever learn to build up emotional reliance and robust emotional health.
