Books By Wayne Anderson - Author
At the age of fifteen I began a three year Graphics Course at Leicester College of Art. This was followed by a one year Post Graduate year.
I was lucky to be a Student at a time when lecturers were working Artists and Designers who earned their living in the Creative Arts and were employed to teach on a part time basis. They brought into the colleges - knowledge, experience, skills and imagination.
On leaving Art College I moved to London in search of work in an Advertising Agency or Design Studio. After a series of interviews it was repeatedly suggested that because of the strong drawing element in my work - maybe I should consider re organising my Portfolio with a view to becoming a Freelance Illustrator. At this time I was unaware that there existed the possibility to make a living out of creating pictures.
One of my early commissions was to produce a picture on a fortnightly basis for the Clement Freud Cookery Column in the Weekend Telegraph Magazine. This lasted for a two year period and gave me a regular income and throughout this time other work developed and I gradually became established as an Illustrator.
1970 – Having married in London and started a family, moved back to a Leicestershire village, working from home with a London based Agent.
My pictures have been used for Greetings Cards - Posters - Prints - Limited Edition Prints - Jigsaws - Playing Cards - Record Covers - CD Covers - Book Jackets - Magazine Illustrations - Advertising Campaigns - Animated Films - Holograms - Adult Books - Children's Books
1975 – I was commissioned to create a Children’s Book. The story concept and the pictures were completed and accepted by the Publisher – it was at this point the poet and playwright, Christopher Logue, was brought in to write the story.
RATSMAGIC was published in 1976 and was awarded the Gold Medal for “Best Illustrated Children’s Book” from The Society of Illustrators, New York.
The last thirty years have been involved with producing Books which are Published all over the World and in all languages - approximately fifty, Children’s and Adult.
Some Books are based on my ideas.
Some Books are created together with a writer.
Some Books are already written and the illustrations are then commissioned by a Publisher.
