Smoky the Cowhorse is one of the most famous and beloved horse stories told. Will James writes in 1920's cowboy vernacular and tells the life of the horse, Smoky, in the western United States from his birth to eventual return to his home range. Smoky is born in the wild, captured, and trained by Clint, and becomes known as the best cow horse. Then a horse thief steals Smoky and beats him repeatedly. Smoky eventually attacks and escapes from the abusive thief. When Smoky is eventually captured, his new violent demeanor results in him being used as a bucking bronco in rodeos as "The Cougar." Years of bucking take their toll. "The Cougar" becomes "Cloudy" the riding horse, and eventually he is sold to an abusive man who starves him. It would be the end, but Clint happens to find him. With careful treatment, Smoky recovers while back on his home range. Smoky the Cowhorse won the 1927 Newbery Award and was adapted to the screen three times as Smoky.

A classic since first published almost 100 years ago, these nostalgic and whimsical poems bring back the innocence of childhood. The poems perfectly enter the thinking of a child. Who mends the soldier's socks? Why does a dormouse keep his eyes shut? Are Brownies tickly? A. A. Milne's observation of children's behavior shows in such poems as 'Disobedience' (Where has James Morrison's mother gone?), 'Jonathan Jo' (who has everything you may need and only wants a smile as payment!), and 'At The Zoo' (where you can find biffalo-buffalo-bisons and bidgers, badgers, and bodgers!) Each sweet and silly poem is written with the rhythm and rhyme that young children love. Knowing how important language development is to success in school, educator AnnaLisa Bodtker created alenbeebooks. Audiobooks enhance listening skills, increase vocabulary, and allow children to enjoy books above their reading levels. Alenbeebooks selects well written stories and poems, that are narrated in an engaging manner, to promote good language skills. copyright 2022 (P) alenbeebooks AnnaLisa Bodtker is the narrator of the popular audiobooks The Adventures of Nutcracker and Sugardolly, Mermaid Tales and Seaside Poems, The Amateur Witch and Other Witchy Stories.
