Irina Korschunow (1925-2013) war Autorin zahlreicher Kinder- und Jugendbücher, Romane und Drehbücher. Sie stammt aus einer deutsch-russischen Familie und wurde 1925 in Stendal geboren. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg studierte sie in Göttingen und München Germanistik, Anglistik und Theaterwissenschaften. Vor allem mit ihren Kinderbüchern schrieb Korschunow sich in die Herzen der Leser und wurde zunächst durch ihre 'Wawuschel'-Bände bekannt. Ihre Kinderbücher, die längst zu Klassikern ihres Genres gehören, wurden in viele Sprachen übersetzt und mehrfach mit Preisen bedacht. Daneben schrieb sie mit 'Er hieß Jan', 'Die Sache mit Christoph', und 'Ein Anruf von Sebastian' erfolgreich Jugendromane und später auch Romane für Erwachsene, die große Beachtung fanden.
