Carolyn Scrace is a prolific illustrator and writer and is currently Art Director of The Salariya Book Company, the children's book publisher in Brighton.
Her career as an artist flourished early when, at the age of 16, her book illustrations for The Bonze Trumpeter by Jenny Nimmo were first published. She studied illustration at Brighton College of Art during the inspiring tenure of Raymond Briggs and John Vernon Lord. Since graduating, her career has taken her into the worlds of advertising and animation as well as publishing. Carolyn's work is extremely versatile: she has illustrated numerous fiction and non-fiction books in many diverse subjects and styles. Her work has been shortlisted many times, including the Times Education Supplement Award for her illustrations, and the ALCS Award for Educational Writing. Carolyn has a keen interest in fashion and costume. She is also passionate about wild animals and nature, which is evident in many of the images from her recent books about Zen Doodling. She is particularly intrigued by the powerful effects of doodling to enhance relaxation, to encourage mindfulness and meditation. Her Zen Doodling books are designed specifically to develop artistic skills at all levels, from beginners onwards and are intended to challenge and inspire creativity.
Carolyn lives with her husband Michael on the edge of the rolling South Downs on the East Sussex coast. Michael, a skilled toolmaker, makes much of the stunning costume jewellery that Carolyn so adores wearing.
